Pensions Managers’ Forum – the new flexible DC world

Thursday 9 October 2014

Aimed specifically at addressing the issues faced by busy pensions managers, this invaluable forum allows pensions managers the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences on a range of different topics and issues.

From April 2015, radical changes to the tax rules will allow individuals with DC pension savings to take their benefits either as an annuity, via drawdown, or as a lump sum, subject to the payment of tax at their marginal rate. Against the backdrop of this major reform, the discussion at our latest forum will centre around the implications in practice for occupational pension schemes. In particular:

  • What should trustees be telling members now about the April 2015 changes?
  • What degree of flexibility might DC trustees consider offering members in their own scheme, and what role might the employer might expect to play?
  • To what extent should scheme rules be amended to reflect the new flexibilities?
  • How will the new guidance guarantee fit in with the trustees’ own communications with members in the run-up to retirement?
  • How will the reforms affect members of DB arrangements?

The forum will also include an open “Any Other Business” section, held under Chatham House rules and providing you with the opportunity to discuss any issues with which you are currently grappling. If you would like to take advantage of this section, please let us know the topic you would like to raise when confirming your place.
