Ralph McClelland comments on the tendency to conflate ‘ethical’ view with ESG
Partner, Ralph McClelland, comments on the continuing tendency to conflate ethical, non-financial factors with financial ESG factors, particularly in the context of member surveys, in Pensions Expert.
McClelland explains that, “for the vast majority of DC schemes members’ views are only going to be relevant in terms of the range of self-select funds on offer”. He goes on to discuss the difficulties in analysis, as well as the variances in attitude to response rates between trustee boards, and how further confusion can arise between ‘environmental factors’ and ‘ethical factors’ from a member point of view.
